Apple completely revamped iOS 27’s controls and apps for the iPhone Duo

Apple's upcoming iOS 27 software release introduces significant user interface adaptations tailored specifically for the company's new foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo.

Drawing design inspiration from the multitasking capabilities of iPadOS, the operating system has been optimized to handle the expanded screen real estate of a flexible display. Key modifications include moving standard system controls toward the edges of the display so they remain easily reachable with a user's thumbs. When the mobile device is fully opened, the operating system splits the screen to present two separate home pages simultaneously: one side hosts a scrollable column of interactive widgets, while the opposite side displays standard application shortcuts. Furthermore, system status indicators have been shifted to the upper corner of the screen to maximize vertical workspace.

The operating system also incorporates context-aware display configurations that react dynamically to the physical orientation of the device. A specialized standby feature transforms the smartphone into an interactive smart dashboard when placed face-down in a tent position on a flat surface, showing full-screen photo frames, weather updates, or calendars. When the flexible display is held partially bent like a book, the interface automatically shifts active visual elements away from the central hinge crease to ensure uninterrupted visibility. Finally, this release marks the first time an iPhone supports stylus input, enabling users to interact with both the inner and outer screens using a USB-C compatible Apple Pencil, which is scheduled for integration later in the year.
