AI code-testing startup Blacksmith's valuation jumps almost 10x in less than a year | TechCrunch

Automated software-testing platform Blacksmith has secured $45 million in a Series B investment round, driving its market valuation to $550 million.

Led by Peak XV Partners with participation from GV and Y Combinator, this funding represents a massive financial leap from the startup's previous valuation of $60 million established less than a year ago. The company, which launched in 2024, addresses the growing complexities of software validation. As artificial intelligence utilities make the process of generating computer code incredibly rapid, developers face an escalating bottleneck in ensuring the stability and safety of that code before it goes live. Blacksmith aims to resolve this issue by offering specialized infrastructure to accelerate the testing process.

Initially starting as a continuous integration cloud provider to run essential software builds, the firm has expanded its platform with an autonomous assistant capable of debugging and repairing failing code checks automatically. This operational expansion has coincided with dramatic business growth, with the startup expanding its customer base from several hundred to over five thousand clients, including prominent technology enterprises. Although the business operates in an increasingly crowded market alongside major hyperscale cloud providers and established developer tools, its leadership plans to leverage this new capital to expand its product offerings, ultimately building a comprehensive environment where developers can write, test, and deploy software more efficiently.
