Insta360’s new Go Ultra has a bigger battery and swappable storage

Insta360 has officially unveiled its latest compact action camera, the Go Ultra, which introduces a significant design shift alongside key hardware upgrades.

Moving away from the distinctive, elongated pill-shaped aesthetic of the previous generations, this new model adopts a rounded square form factor with an offset lens arrangement. Although this physical redesign makes the device slightly wider and heavier than its immediate predecessor, it still maintains a highly compact profile that is noticeably smaller than most competing action cameras on the market. Accompanying these physical updates is an increased retail price of $449.99. In terms of imaging performance, the camera features a substantially larger sensor and a dedicated ambient light sensor, both of which are engineered to deliver vastly improved footage in challenging, low-light environments. Furthermore, its video performance has been upgraded to support 4K recording at up to 60 frames per second, which doubles the maximum framerate of prior models.

The transition to a square design has allowed the manufacturer to integrate a much larger 500mAh internal battery, which significantly boosts the device's standalone operating life to over an hour of continuous recording, with further extension possible when docked into its accompanying screen-equipped charging case. In another major functional pivot, the company has abandoned fixed internal storage in favor of an external memory card slot that supports high-capacity microSD cards, enabling users to swap media cards seamlessly during long shoots. While the symmetrical shape of the new body might make it slightly more difficult for users to quickly determine the shooting orientation at a glance, the device retains its highly practical waterproof rating and magnetic backing, facilitating versatile hands-free mounting options such as chest pendants and hat clips.
