Final Fantasy 7 Revelation DLC will "dig deeper" into Sephiroth and Vincent, but Naoki Hamaguchi is "not going to tell you" if their stories are prequels

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed new details regarding the upcoming downloadable content (DLC) expansions planned for the final installment of the modern remake trilogy, titled Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Following the studio's choice to skip additional content for the middle chapter, Rebirth, the development team has officially scheduled two distinct story expansions slated to arrive between late 2027 and early 2028. The first of these updates will center on the iconic antagonist Sephiroth, while the second will follow the mysterious Vincent Valentine alongside the elite corporate operative group known as the Turks. These chapters are designed to explore the motivations and histories of these prominent figures in greater depth than the main narrative allows.

Although Hamaguchi compared the depth of these upcoming expansions to the character-driven "Intermission" DLC from the first remake entry, he declined to specify where these stories fit chronologically. He remained silent on whether these scenarios function as prequels or occur parallel to the main adventure, leaving fans to speculate on potential narrative directions, such as Vincent's historical ties to his former employers or Sephiroth's military past. Furthermore, the director addressed the lingering emotional impact of the dramatic events involving Aerith in the previous game, hinting that players who were upset by those narrative choices might experience a shift in perspective once they play through the ultimate conclusion of the trilogy.
