Apple Maps follows Google in renaming Lake Ontario

Apple's mobile navigation application has officially modified the designation of Lake Ontario to "Lake America" for users accessing the service within the United States.

Although the revised moniker appears for American users, the Canadian iteration of the mapping application retains the traditional historical name. Conversely, older navigation services like MapQuest have publicly declined to adopt these politically motivated rebrandings. MapQuest's decision to maintain the established geographical names has resonated positively with many consumers, seemingly fueling a significant resurgence in downloads that pushed the legacy application to the top position on the App Store.
