Insta360’s next 360-degree action cam puts bigger sensors in a smaller design

Insta360 has officially unveiled its newest 360-degree action camera, the X6, which introduces a more compact and portable design alongside notable hardware upgrades.

Although the physical frame is smaller and lighter than previous iterations, the device incorporates dual custom Sony square sensors that deliver a substantial increase in surface area and light sensitivity. This hardware enables the camera to capture ultra-high-definition 8K footage at higher frame rates, alongside elevated megapixel counts for still photography. Users will also find a redesigned touchscreen on the back of the device, which trades the older LCD technology for a more vibrant OLED display, as well as significantly tougher, more budget-friendly replacement lenses.\n\nIn addition to its physical modifications, the camera is equipped with dual imaging chips that leverage artificial intelligence to improve noise reduction and low-light performance. It stands out as the first camera of its kind to offer native in-camera Dolby Vision support, preserving precise frame-by-frame brightness and contrast. The manufacturer has also integrated a larger internal battery, promising a substantial boost in continuous recording times. Waterproofing limits have been extended to allow for deeper underwater excursions, while upgraded automated editing software helps users generate shareable video clips without requiring manual post-processing.
