The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 introduces a significant design shift for foldable smartphones, adopting a squatter, wider profile with a 10:16 outer screen and a 4:3 inner display.

This passport-sized aspect ratio deviates from previous tall-and-narrow designs, making the opened screen feel closer to a traditional tablet and vastly improving the experience of reading text and viewing media. The physical construction is notably lighter and thinner than its predecessors, weighing just 201 grams and measuring under ten millimeters thick when closed. This sleeker frame is made possible partly by the integration of silicon-carbon battery technology, which delivers a robust 4,800mAh capacity to ensure dependable daily battery performance without adding excess physical bulk.

Despite these physical improvements, the device introduces several major trade-offs that may give prospective buyers pause, particularly given its premium pricing. To maintain the slim chassis, Samsung reduced the camera array to only two lenses, eliminating the telephoto sensor and equipping the main camera with a smaller, lower-resolution sensor than the prior generation. Furthermore, while the wide screen is highly functional, Android software occasionally struggles to adapt, resulting in minor interface bugs and layout errors in certain apps. Despite these minor software hitches and downgraded camera specifications, the device succeeds in establishing a highly ergonomic and practical form factor that could define the next generation of flexible electronics.
