The veteran Hollywood screenwriter Paul Schrader, widely recognized for his narrative contributions to seminal films like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, has announced his intention to utilize artificial intelligence to bring his long-stalled screenplay to life.

The project, a crime noir feature centered around the lives of three criminal brothers, had struggled to find momentum within the traditional studio system. Facing persistent difficulties in securing a cast, the filmmaker decided to bypass conventional actors entirely and instead rely on emerging AI generation tools to execute his creative vision.

The casting obstacles stemmed from the script's specific characterizations. Schrader revealed that his attempts to recruit Black actors for the project were repeatedly rebuffed. According to his account, performers were unwilling to participate in a movie that featured no positive representations of Black individuals, which ultimately led to the project being shelved. Rather than rewriting the narrative elements or modifying the characters to appeal to prospective talent, the director has chosen to embrace digital automation. This transition represents a notable shift in how seasoned industry figures are leveraging technology to circumvent traditional casting preferences and produce independent work.
