Your Sonos speakers can now control your Hue lights

At the IFA 2025 trade show, a new technology partnership was officially unveiled between the smart lighting brand Philips Hue and the audio hardware company Sonos, allowing consumers to operate their lighting systems directly through Sonos's proprietary voice control system.

This rollout represents the first time Sonos has permitted its integrated voice assistant to control smart home devices outside of its traditional music and audio playback ecosystem. Through this new feature, users can easily instruct their speakers to toggle lights on and off, adjust brightness levels, or trigger customized lighting presets. Notably, the system is designed to execute all voice commands locally on the physical device rather than transmitting data to external cloud networks, which should offer users faster response times and improved reliability compared to traditional cloud-connected voice platforms.

This initial feature is positioned as the starting point for a deeper, long-term integration roadmap between the two connected-home brands. Representatives from Philips Hue highlighted that both companies share a significant portion of their respective customer bases, making a deeper partnership highly logical. Looking ahead, the companies plan to build experiences where sound and light work in tandem to influence room ambiance. Future software updates are expected to introduce features where ambient lighting automatically shifts to complement the tempo or mood of active music playback, and conversely, specific audio settings or playlists will activate to enhance chosen lighting designs, ultimately creating a more cohesive and immersive smart home environment.
