Formula E’s new season is starting to look more like F1

The international electric racing championship, Formula E, is planning to implement substantial updates for its upcoming season, bringing its overall structure and vehicle capabilities closer to traditional motorsports like Formula One.

The next phase of the series will mark the debut of the newly designed Gen4 electric race cars, which feature a larger physical footprint and drastically increased speeds capable of reaching 208 miles per hour. To accommodate these faster speeds, the organization is transitioning its race calendar away from tight, temporary street circuits toward established grand prix race tracks. The updated schedule will include renowned venues in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

Alongside the vehicle and track alterations, the racing series is introducing a revamped weekend format designed to increase on-track excitement. A new thirty-minute sprint race, branded as "Unleashed," will take place before the primary event. This shorter race will omit the mandatory battery-boost pit stops of the main race, allowing drivers to focus purely on speed and aggressive driving rather than energy conservation. With the Gen4 cars offering a massive seventy-one percent boost in power, organizers aim to demonstrate the extreme performance capabilities of modern electric powertrains, with leadership suggesting future designs may soon rival or exceed traditional combustion-engine racing performance.
