Here's our first look—and drive—of the 2027 Range Rover Electric

Jaguar Land Rover has officially introduced the 2027 Range Rover Electric, marking a key milestone in the automaker's gradual transition toward an all-electric lineup.

Designed to closely resemble its internal combustion and plug-in hybrid siblings, this new battery-electric SUV aims to prioritize the traditional luxury and driving dynamics of the brand before highlighting its electric powertrain. Built on the company's versatile MLA platform, the electric model adds only a small amount of weight compared to the V8 variant, as the removal of traditional differentials and driveshafts offsets much of the battery pack's mass. Powering the vehicle are two identical permanent-magnet synchronous motors that produce a combined 542 horsepower, allowing the SUV to reach highway speeds in just over four seconds while operating with vastly improved noise and vibration control.

Under the hood, the vehicle incorporates an 800-volt architecture and a 118.5 kilowatt-hour battery pack, enabling an estimated range of over 330 miles on a full charge. The system supports ultra-fast DC charging that can replenish substantial range in only ten minutes, alongside vehicle-to-load functionality for powering external devices. To preserve the brand's signature off-road capabilities, engineers developed an advanced electronic torque-management system to control traction across challenging terrains such as mud, rocks, and deep water without needing mechanical locking differentials. Early testing on specialized courses demonstrates that the electric Range Rover preserves the high-end comfort, agility, and rugged versatility expected by traditional buyers.
